I hereby request that Sgt. X’s EO presentation be the standard format for all Government Service. Hell of a lot better than the EO lecture we got my first day of FAA training.
Classic long-ass boring video with the standard “Don’t be a prick” stuff. An hour later when it was done I raised my hand and asked the Instructor (who is of course a fat black woman) “Ma’am, you do realize that video was sexist and racist, right?” The whole class (men, women, white, black, lation, etc.) turns to look at me while the Instructor splutters in confusion and rage. “Ma’am”, I continue, “every pepetrator in that film was a white middle aged male. That’s racist and sexist.” The whole class sort of goes “Oh yeah!” while I get to watch a black woman turn red in the face.

Don’t you know anything? You can’t show a black person being a dick to a white person, or a latino, or an asian. That would be rasist! And you can’t show a woman harassing a man, because we all know that women would NEVER do that.

No, of course not. The Vietnamese guy at work who wont eat “white people food” isn’t racist, he’s expressing his culture. And the girl I knew at college who routinely molested us wasn’t harassing us, she was expressing her feminist ideals (do note of course we wholeheartedly encouraged her!).

THe last time I went to EO training I almost got lynched. The Chaplain was tying the noose. Don’t ever tell a room full of hard core, dedicated, government functinaries, that the “government” answer was wrong, and prove it. Don’t point out the racism, sexism and bigotry in their own training, at least not without a good pair of track shoes. Never show how something like EO can be fixed between team members without resorting to filing complaints, destroying carreers etc.

Now I know. Boss doesn’t make me go to them anymore, even if it is mandatory training. He knows it won’t do me any good, and doesn’t want my blood on his hands.
