Zombieland

Monday, October 5th, 2009

I saw it yesterday. And I wholeheartedly give it two disembodied hands with the thumbs up. I think that this was the best zombie movie since Shaun of the Dead. This is probably the best movie I have seen in the theater for the past year or so.

If you are interested in this movie, pill then strongly recommend getting to the theater soon. There is a bit of a “surprise” in the movie, buy and the longer you wait, the better the chance that someone will spoil it for you.

Tongue Eating Parasite Found

It eats a fish’s tongue.  And then it replaces the fish’s tongue using it’s own body.  Sort of like Maria Bello in The Mummy 3: The Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, if you assume that she devoured Rachel Weisz to get the part.

"Quaid! Start the reactor!"

And I’m pretty much done eating sushi forever.

And the Cord You Rode In On.

Art is an essential part of what makes us human beings.  The ability to create, for the sake of creation and for the sake sharing that creation with others, is an urge that appears to be, if not unique amongst the creatures on this planet, is at the very least a rare trait indeed.

Our art is is both a reflection of who we are as a people, and in many important ways, it is the sum of who we are as a people.

It is our hopes, our dreams, and our fears.  It a snapshot of our  history, a reflection of the present, and a glimpse of where we are heading in our future.

Of the many types of art one of the most ubiquitous is music.

Baby Prep

I went to Gen Con this past weekend, and am still busy playing catch-up here at my house. Also I seem to have run through all of my guest posts, so I’ll just jot something down quick tonight. I’ll have more to say on the con and the neat things I saw later.

1) I’ve recently been getting ready for the birth of my children. Mainly by panicking, but occasionally by doing something more useful. Last week my wife gave me access to the Amazon baby-gift registry. An act she has come to regret.

It turns out that nobody has a rule against registering your twins for his and hers C’thulu plush dolls. My wife being the good sport that she is, let it slide, but drew the line at organizing a R’leya themed nursery. I can probably get away with teaching them to say “C’thulu F’tagen!”

Neat Video

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

I suspect that this video is actually several orders of magnitude better than the movie that’s currently in the theaters.  I am unlikely to actually see this movie before it winds up on cable, as I see no reason to pay perfectly good money for any product that contains a Wayans brother.

The previews I saw actually made the movie look dumber than the cartoon. And the cartoon had a woman shooting down A-10 Thunderbirds by hurling spears at them, a man that undertook covert military operations with a parrot,  and a battle that took place in fucking Toyland.

President Obama appoints Barry White to the US Ambassadorship to Norway.

Evidently people are now getting appointments based entirely on how much fun SNL will have making fun of them.

Here is an example of his previous work in the diplomatic field.

I Should Work For A TV Network

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

I’ve had some ideas for reality television shows.

It has been pointed out that my ideas are more “elaborate and dangerous practical jokes on innocent people” than television shows. But on the other hand shows like Joe Millionaire and WB’s Superstar USA, and   Scare Tactics seem to indicate that elaborate and dangerous practical jokes are a valid entertainment choice.

My first idea is called “The Haunted Manor”.  A group of standard attention-whore reality show fodder are placed in an actual haunted house.  Last one to quit wins a fabulous and expensive prize.

Naturally the house isn’t actually haunted.  But it will be built, and controlled by a high end special effects studio.  All of the background, history and so on will be elaborately faked.  Given enough lead in time, and enough of a budget a fake special program about haunting could be produced, for the express purpose of convincing people that the house is a real place, with a long documented history.

Once the contestants are inside, it’s just a matter of screwing with them until they start snapping.

And I’m Back

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

Thanks to Michiel for taking over while I was away.

So I have just just moved back to Dallas.  I was originally planning to write about all of the interesting things I saw on my trip.  But as it turns out, there isn’t a hell of a lot between Dallas and Phoenix.  It’s basically just rocks, dirt and El Paso.

While passing through El Paso I did manage to go through an immigration check point.  All of the INS agents manning the checkpoint were Hispanic.  Which seems like something that you would see in a Carlos Mencia sketch. Assuming of course that some other funnier comedian had made an identical sketch years earlier.

I got to sit in a line for about 40 minutes while cars creeped through one at a time.  When it was my turn an agent approached the car.

The latest Transformer movie made somewhere around the amount of 700 million dollars so far.  So there’s a good chance that no matter what else happens, there is going to be a part 3.

So I think that what Michael Bay should do for the next installment is hire Dan Brown to write it.  When you hear my reasons you will probably agree that he is a natural fit.

You see, the alien robots from the transformers have been on the Earth longer than the human race has, which was either millions of years ago, or 6,000 depending on where you went to school.  This is why some of them transform into dinosaurs.
