I…Wanna Plagiarize All Night
So I happened to catch a rather interesting news development. It seems that Nick Simmons, unhealthy son of famous musician Gene Simmons has his own comic book, called Incarnate.
And in the tradition of great comic book enthusiast Banky Edwards, Nick spends his day tracing.
So a professional in the comic industry decided to directly copy the work of a whole bunch of popular manga series, and figured that nobody would notice.
Oops.

His defense has essentially been, to this point, the comic world’s equivalent of Vanilla Ice’s defense of “Ice Ice Baby’s” similarity to “Under Pressure”. He says that it’s alike, but different. If I could link to Mr. van Winkle’s defense from back when MTV showed music videos, I would.
Captcha= diapered net. I don’t even want to know.

If I remember correctly he said something along the lines of:
“Under pressure goes like this: Din Din Din Deh Deh Din Din.
And Ice Ice Baby goes this: Din Din Din Deh Deh Din Din Tsst.
see they’re totally different.”
But its been quite some time since ive seen the interview.

Excpt Banky’s job was to refine the “first draft” into “print draft”. Not plagairizing, mereley paart of the production process.
This is an example of outright ripoff. If you have the skill to trace a panel of art and then alter it without looking like a buffoon your energy would be better spent creating original art.

No comment, just my Captcha is “madam weekend”, and while it does sound like fun, I just don’t have the time to take a road trip to Las Vegas…

It gets better, have you heard his “apology”?
“Like most artists I am inspired by work I admire. There are certain similarities between some of my work and the work of others. This was simply meant as an homage to artists I respect, and I definitely want to apologize to any Manga fans or fellow Manga artists who feel I went too far. My inspirations reflect the fact that certain fundamental imagery is common to all Manga. This is the nature of the medium.
I am a big fan of Bleach, as well as other Manga titles. And I am certainly sorry if anyone was offended or upset by what they perceive to be the similarity between my work and the work of artists that I admire and who inspire me.”
tl;dr? “I’m sorry that I offended people by blatantly ripping off Bleach and close to a dozen other anime, but really, it’s just a ‘homage’, so it’s okay.”

knowing that his father is VERY business savy, and would gladly give advice to his son, its kinda weird and stupid that the boy didnt ask or realize what he was doing wrong.

The truly messed up thing is he ripped off struggling non published artist from DeviantART. While the big mangas can sue his happy ass if they want to (but it looks like they are not going to bother and let the internet mob handle it) those indy artist dont have the same recourse. I personally think he should be dangled by his thumbs while a bunch of manga cosplayers use him for target practice. I’m thinking a giant foam copy of Ichigos sword up the ass would be very apt…But I’m sick like that. *grin*

Ohhh, he dared to copy The BLEACH? Oh, Jen, how I agree with you. *high fives fellow sick-person* I’m thinking….oh, a copy of his Shikai? *grins*
Captcha: had bantered.
“At first they had bantered back and forth, but then realized…most of those ideas would be good punishment for the aformentioned Mr. Simmons.”

LOL thanks for the high fives. I could think of many many more sick and twisted things but they involve controlled chemicals and massive tissue damage and we never know who is watching and might take my hypothetical situation at face value.. *goes and giggles in the corner maniacally*
Captch : the forensic… the main reason I cant have as much fun as I would like lol
