Now I’m curious as to her analysis of other popular culture elements, from music to interpretive dance. I certainly didn’t expect so cogent a thought process upon so seemingly topical a song.
Also, now I’m terribly curious what other songs have quotation marks I was hitherto unaware of. I wonder if things beyond songs use them?
*worried look*
My tea. That could be a real problem.

I’m afraid the poor girl is dead serious and actually believes that airy piece of saccharine pop crap actually projects a deeper message.
I’ve seen people pull “deep and philosophical” meaning from anything, bending the words to suit their purpose.

Ah, yes. The modern day where anybody can be Socrates if they BS there way through stuff well enough. Using her logic, I could probably find some way of deriving the meaning of the universe from the song “I like big butts”.

“…and i can not lie. You other Brother’s can’t deny…” its all about how George Washington could never tell a lie, and calling for the rest of the politicians to start following suit, of course.

Yeahhh I’m not sure I buy it. How is someone supposed to get economic crisis from weekend? U.S. foreign policy from front seat vs back seat? That’s just too far-fetched. They don’t seem related at all, and even if it IS supposed to be a metaphor of it, it’s too random, obscure and, well, removed from what it’s supposed to be a metaphor for, for the metaphor to be a good one.
I mean, the consumerism line kinda makes sense, but the rest of it… I didn’t hear the song get sung sarcastically.

Make up your mind… is the song a bunch of random metaphors or is it all about Dave Coulier?

Um…did none of the other commenters maybe think Rebecca was joking? Ya know, sarcasm?
Losen up people, sometime people like to joke around.

Considering the source, the whole video is sarcasm.
Her family bought her a video production, the internet decided to make it a meme, but I have still seen better vocals get turned down on American Idol.

You make a good point. Considering Skippy posted this on April 2nd, the video probably came out on April 1rst >.<

Somehow i’m reminded of the Aerosmith in my breakfast nook episode of Wayne’s World.
Wayne: Cool.. Lipmeister. Okay: “With the recent developments in Eastern Europe, do you think that Communism is on the decline, or is this just a temporary setback?”
Steven Tyler: Wow, man, that’s a hard question.. But I have to respond with a qualified yes. Although it seems that Socialism is in repose, until you repsoe the Stalinist era apparatchiks, there will be no real change in the Soviet Union.
Tom Hamilton: No, I disagree, man. There’s never been a blueprint for the dictatorship of the Proletariats, so there’s bound to be mistakes. However, if you study history, you’ll see that since the rise of the nationship, Socialism has been a historic inevitability.. dude.
Garth: Excellent! Excellent!
Wayne: Fascinating. Okay, we’re just about out of time, right? But it’s always been my fantasy to play with you guys. And I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind singing the “Wayne’s World” theme with me?
[ Aerosmith agrees, so they and Wayne ready their guitars ]

There’s a noted critic who claims “Night of the Living Dead” is about Vietnam.
See, it has HELICOPTERS. And GUNS.
And the Vietnamese? “they constitute an absent presence.”

/ Superb blog! Do you have any tips and hints for aspiring writers? I’m hoping to start my own blog soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you suggest starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many options out there that I’m totally overwhelmed .. Any tips? Appreciate it!

What I find most interesting about Afghanistan is the disconnect we have between a country and it's people. If we find that we can't change their culture-whether by force or consumerism- whether it's genetic or not- then why let them come here?I think Afghan immigration into the US is pretty negligible.

That looks like a fantastic day, everything looks spectacular, but I’m particularly intrigued by the homemade tofu. I really like soy products, though my favorite is definitely tempeh, the texture and natural flavor is unmatched.
