What the heck is wrong with these people?

November 7th, 2007 by skippy

http://www.upi.com/NewsTrack/Top_News/2007/11/05/groups_attack_military_store_sex_mags/5604/

I mean seriously.

I can understand that someone could look at the military and see issues that they want fixed.

And I can understand that some people don’t approve of adult images. That’s fine too.

And I’ll even, vcialis 40mg for the sake of argument, accept that there are men out there that don’t enjoy pictures of naked women. (Although we all know that there are only two kinds of men who don’t like nude women….liars and homosexuals).

But these people took a look at the military and said “Y’know what the problem is? All these people risking their lives to protect our countries and freedoms? Yeah these guys are able to look at pictures that I don’t like. We can’t have that! “

Soldiers already give up so much to protect our country. Huge amounts of time, the ability to interact with their families. And frequently their lives. These are things they have to give up in order to do their job properly.

Soldiers have to give up so much that it is just wrong to try to take anything else away from them without a good reason. National security is a good reason. Some fundamentalist with his undies in a wad is not.

Any people who take part in this attempt on our soldiers freedoms are ungrateful, selfish, conniving bastards.

If you care about soldiers issues, please be sure to contact you Representative and Senator to tell them to send these folks packing.

Going to DC in January and meeting with some Reps. I’ll make sure to raise the issue (as is expected from my sup. I’m the unofficial Porn Outreach Director: putting porn in people’s hands, as well as what I’m *supposed* to do)

ok, as a soldier who is married I don’t really so much need the nudie mags but I would never deny my fellow soldiers who would want them that right. The issue at hand is more than whether or not soldiers can look at boobies. It’s also got alot to do with how much political correctness has destroyed so much more in America than terrorism ever threatened to. I can’t go on with this because it’s getting long as is…

Yeah, I’ll be contacting my rep. about this. (I’m pretty sure my senator just deletes anything I send to her.) I’m a feminist, but I’m also big on the first amendment, and as long as everyone involved in making and viewing porn is willing and adult it it seems wrong to ban it. If something is legal in the country they’re fighting for, and it doesn’t interfere with getting the job done, it seems stupid to tell soldiers they can’t have it.

They ones they sell aren’t even that bad. I could see people getting mad about some of the magazines, but it mostly just things like playboy, which everyone knows you get for the articles anyway.

What kind of army freaks out over grumble? There are FAR worse things wrong with the US Army… the availability of grumble should be WAY down the list of “things to fix” (not to mention the fix is “stock more of it in greater variety”; the propensity of the soldier for extreme grumble is well-known…)

I’m currently a medic in the army with just shy of 10 years in and this is the second most ridiculous issue I have ever heard. (The first being my platoon leader in Korea coming back from a command staff meeting during a 30 gunnery field problem stating with a genuinely dumbfounded tone, “I just sat through a 45 minute discussion on whether or not we should have strawberry milk in the d-fac.”) Why anyone cares about Playboy being sold in the PX is beyond me. I know it’s an issue of being politically correct, but I have some bad news: politcal correctness has no place in the military. We are in the business of breaking stuff and killing people that are trying to kill us and break our stuff. Worrying about being politically coreect all the time simply impedes the mission. Nothing anyone can say will ever be more offensive than incoming fire. Period. If I hurt anyone’s feelings with this, tough.

You know, it astounds me the level of ignorance some people have. This group is amazing. I would bet that they would be right there picketing service members funerals. I have no respect for people that try to push their morals on others. He must really be offended at an art museum. Think about this though, should that group get their way, it will lead to more things being taken away from service members. Interesting that AFA decided to target the military and not 7-11.

well, this is kinda like groups of people in New Zealand, protesting against war, DURING ANZAC Day, holding marches during the dawn ceremony. Anzac day is a new zealand national holiday in which we honour the soldiers who died. and we got a bunch of people waving signs, calling the dead soldiers and returned servicemen “murderers”. i honestly couldn’t believe it. to call them murderers, when they were defending our rights, is just total bullshit. and that wasn’t the worst part. the fact they deliberately picked ANZAC day to hold these protests, was like turning up to a funeral and calling the dead person a liar, murderer, imperialist pig. at least pick another day to hold the protests. i don’t mind what they think, but picking a day of remembrance and instead, gate crashing it is just going too far.

  13. Kieran Says:

Let soldiers have their magazines. As for Anzac day that was pretty damn stupid and disrespectful to protest on that day since i could of sworn Anzac day was almost sacred for Australia and New Zealand as whole.

Be very, very careful about that, because any porn downrange violates General Order 1, and that’s a serious offense. Now that that’s out of the way, any soldier worth his salt already has several gigabytes hidden on their laptop. Because no one in customs actually checks said drives. And if they don’t, they get it from their buddies or get new stuff on R&R.

This is about as ignorant as not being able to say any curse words in the modern military, specifically during Basic Combat Training, but still embracing the mantra “blood blood blood makes the green grass grow!” for bayonet drills. Look folks, the US Army (and Marines, Air Force, and Navy) is not a police force, it is an ARMY! Armies are meant to kill other people to either defend their country or enforce their country’s views on someone else. Grow up and deal with it, and keep your damn beliefs to yourself, you Christo-commie! Jesus said “do unto others as you would have them do unto you” and I don’t tell you that you can’t read scripture whenever you want, leave the porn alone!

If an adult wants tae look at the nudie pics, let him (or her o.0). It’s not like anyone’s dying or getting hurt in the legit porn industry. I suppose it’s safe to attack nittygritty in their own country while protected behind a shield of government… which wouldn’t even exist without the acts of the US army throughout history, but it’s NOT ok for them to venture out into the real world where actual problems exist and it’s not perfectly safe for ’em to voice opinions. This kind of shit really pisses me off (and it comes from religious as well as non-religious groups). Has anyone involved complained? I don’t see soldiers complaining about nudie mags (which, I might add, if they DO find offensive, they can simply NOT buy :P), and I don’t see penthouse stars complaining, so if no complaint exists within the involved parties, what right has anyone, notably NOT involved, to butt their nose in and complain?

Just when I thought they couldn’t get any more annoying… I think people should rebel by sending porn to Donald Wildmon. We could also send Donald over to tell the soldiers in person. While he’s over there, perhaps he can shield them from all the harsh language and unnecessary violence they experience every day. How dare he infringe on the free will of others in the name of religion, ethics or even morality? The people weren’t forced to have their pictures taken and no one is forcing the soldiers to buy it if they don’t want to. When will he trust people to live their own lives?

I guess they are not familiar with Military History. Nude or partially nude women have been part of the military for a long time. Nose Art of WW2, then Playboy, etc. Although no one should be forced to view it, if someone wants to they should be allowed to. Next thing they’ll be editing e-Mail for pictures of wives and girlfriends or husbands and boyfriends. I personally think this is nothing more than another attempt to attack the Military by those whom enjoy the fruit of their sacrifice, but have no respect for the military. OOH AHH!!

So I will be attempting to do my part by sending up to date smut over to my buddies in the big sand box. It is amazing what just a centerfold out of a worn out playboy will do to moral out there.

I can understand that as representatives of our country, these men and women need to present themselves accordingly in public, but what they read in their own home (or bunker or whatever) is their buisiness and nobody elses. Skippy, I am sure you remember the dreaded General Order 1. Hell even as contractors we are subject to that here in Iraq. Pornography is a big no no for some odd reason. Hell if these marines had porn I think there would be less instances of them flirting with desert yetis or other form of trouble with females. I had a room inspection(Yes contractors still get them from time to time) I was told to take down my wall hanger of a beautiful goth girl in bondage gear since it was deemed offensive. I really think we need to get rid of the PC crowd and Bible Thumpers since they are out to screw over the military guys it seems. :(

I think maybe Tempest01 might have the right idea in comment #27 above: ban all the Christian mags and such too. After all, under ‘separation of church and state’, shouldn’t the PX be banned from selling anything that promotes any religion? So no rightwing magazines, no bibles (or Talmuds or Korans, gotta be fair here!), no no no! Nothing religious at all, how’d they like them apples?!?

.I remember this debate, I believe from ten years ago, when the regulation was enacted. The point of removing indecent material from the PX’s and Shoppetts really had nothing to do with taking anything, healthy or unhealthy, away from the soldiers. It was part of a general movement to ask the decision makers in retail, grocery, and convenience stores through out the country to stop selling, or at least displaying, pornographic material, as well as magazines with porn-equivalent covers (read: Cosmo) in stores frequented by people of varying moral sensibilities *and ages.*

Think of it this way: what if the commissary [grocery store] had an unattended table offering, “to adults only,” samples of alcohol.

No… think as parents, here. No, no, not beleaguered parents… as *responsible* parents!

I’m not saying anything really dangerous, now, just a table full of samples of beer, or maybe even wine coolers. I realize it’s that it’s on the parents, first, to know where their little kids are, but even the smallest toddlers can escape sometimes. And don’t most parents trust their kids to walk through the store alone at least a few years before they start letting them make their own decisions about alcohol, or porn?

Now add in the fact that not only can customers leave the magazines where anyone can see them, but here at Fort Bliss, and against AAFES policy, the stock that won’t fit on the top shelf, behind the divider that’s supposed to block the cover images form view, is sometimes just stuck on other, lower shelves. This is the same as putting out the wine cooler samples without any signs or labels, and putting them right next to the juices or fruit-flavored sodas!

.Oh, and for those of you who say that religious motivation shouldn’t have any influence on legal decisions, you may have very logical reasons for thinking so. I suspect that you could get Sgt. Generic to spout off that she agrees with you. I’m just glad that Mrs. Stowe did not.

  35. SKD Says:

Concerning the porn mags at the PX/BX/NEX, I was in the Navy while these “objectionable” materials were still being sold and I remember when they stopped selling them. However in the handful of bases i was on the magazines were kept behind the counter just like they are at convenience stores, oftentimes you had to ask to even find out if they were there. In that case you really can’t make the argument that they were in a place where underage persons could gain access to them, so in the end it does come down to a small group(all special interest groups are small in proportion to the populations they are trying to force their morals on) forcing others to follow their moral and ethical values. And considering that one of the values America was founded on is “Freedom of Religion” then yes religious motivations should be excluded from influencing legal decisions.
