Me too. Of course, if you are a proper geek, EVERYTHING reminds you of Spaceballs.

May the Shwartz be with you.

It all makes perfect sense now. but still, the question remains, why do we form up FIFTEEN minutes prior to the actual formation? I mean, thats fifteen minutes i’m not sitting on my a** for.

Sorry for the three day thread necro, but we used to call this “timings creep”. For example, this was pretty typical:

A Battalion parade is set for 1000 hrs. Our company commander would want us formed up for 0945. Our Platoon commander would want us formed up for 0930, to be ready for the company form up at 0945. Our Section commander would want us formed up at 0915 to be ready for 0930, to be ready for 0945, to be ready for the parade at 1000.

The motto we used to run with was “if you’re early you’re on time, if you’re on time you’re late, and if you’re late you’re AWOL.” So, we would normally show up 15-20 minutes early for any timings.

So, the parade was set to start at 1000, the reviewing officer normally doesnt show up for at least another 20-30 minutes after that, but we all showed up at 0900, and stood around for an hour for no goddam good reason.

Timings creep. Wasting soldier’s time since….. ever
